Connecting Classrooms Through Global Learning Project with Nepal:

Funding:  For reciprocal visits, CPD, activities, dissemination etc.

Children First Academy trust in Enfield (Wilbury, Fleecefield, Raynham, Brettenham and Galliard Primary Schools) have started with a 'Culture in a Box' activity in order to get to know each other with pupils creating and sharing boxes that reflect their own cultures.The primary focus of the project is the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities. All schools involved are located in a city and through collaborative discussions, they have highlighted the need to raise pupil and staff awareness of key topics that are needed to achieve a better and more sustainable future, such as reducing our environmental impact, supporting local farmers and communities, sharing our cultural heritage, and safe travel.   The collaborative project is increasing the global dimension in the curriculum for each school and provides opportunities for cross curricular links as part of everyday learning. Pupils are developing the transferable skills of communication, critical thinking, creativity and collaboration, which are needed to tackle global issues and to thrive in an increasingly global world. Pupils are given opportunities to develop speaking, listening and reading skills, which are a shared priority in all schools, and will learn to use their voice, for local and global issues.

Erasmus+ KA2 Project - Spain and the UK: Learning Together:

Funding:  For staff and pupil visits, project management and activities.

Involving Wilbury’s partner school in Spain, this project focusses on Spanish and Geography.  Each class is linking their Erasmus+ project to their Geography planning i.e., Year 4, Human and Physical Geography on Europe; Year 5- Comparison study of rivers and coasts and Year 6 – Latin America project.   

This one country focus in the Geography curriculum has enabled cross curricular links with Spanish which is the school's chosen Modern Foreign Language.  Through its ongoing involvement in international work and as reflected in the School Development Plan, Wilbury is using this work to improve teaching and learning across the school.

KA1 Erasmus+ Project: Up, UP & Away

Funding:  European CPD (visits / accommodation / course fees etc.)

This project is funding international CPD to explore curriculum development and bring back good practice observed in other European countries.  Over the project life-span, 18-20 members of staff attend structured courses and professional development events which are directly linked to St Vincent's School Development Priorities.


Erasmus+ KA2 ProjectUtopia 'Developing skills for cross-curricular teaching in an outdoor

and/or community-based environment'

Funding:  For staff visits, project management and activities.

The project involving partners in Bulgaria, Belgium, Wales, Greece, Slovenia & Spain aims to develop materials, tools and resources for alternative ways of learning through outdoor activities and is embedded within Project Based Learning at St Vincent's. Children engage in enrichment and curriculum activities whilst learning about global issues. The project helps to develop confidence, their critical thinking skills and explore their world on a local, national and international level as well as a understanding of our interdependence and of people’s everyday lives.

Taking part in an Erasmus+ project is a positive opportunity to collaborate and work with

colleagues/partner schools from around Europe to broaden the opportunities for children and staff


Global Scholars: Resourceful Cities

St Vincent’s have been involved in this global on-line project for many years.   This year, students are designing local solutions that make production, delivery, and disposal systems more sustainable and improve the lives of people in cities worldwide

The Global Scholars project fits into project-based learning at the school and supports the school’s values work / sits within the range of international activities at the school

We are delighted to see St Vincent's posts in the What We Consume discussion in the Global Scholars e-classroom. We noticed that their posts are critically and thoughtfully engaging with the discussion prompts to reflect on their consumption habits. Students are displaying global and academic engagement learning outcomes and showing a genuine interest in monitoring their consumption.’

KA1 Erasmus+ Project: Supporting Rapid Vocabulary Development and Language for Pupils In European Schools: Their Approach and Practices

Erasmus+ KA2 Project - Exploring and Developing Cultural Identities in the UK and Spain

Funding:  For staff and pupil visits, project management and activities.

The aim of these projects which link Parkfield and its Spanish partner, are to develop knowledge and understanding of the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach which all the bilingual schools in Madrid use. This will be done by enhancing the language skills of staff and their cultural awareness through immersion in the mobilities but will also help the school develop a culturally inclusive curriculum, celebrate diversity and embed a European and international dimension to the curriculum

Through engagement with these projects over the next two years the school wants staff to learn from and work with colleagues in Spain who use CLIL as an approach to supporting rapid vocabulary development and language as well as exploring and developing cultural identities in the UK and Spain.

Chipstead Valley Primary and the PACE Academy Trust

Chipstead Valley have been involved in a range of international activities and global learning work for many years


Connecting Classrooms Through Global Learning Project with Nepal:

5 schools from PACE Academy Trust are working with a similar cluster in Nepal on their Zero Waste project ‘United Against Waste’ in which pupils will be working on joint activities.  Pupils have designed logos one of which will be chosen for the project.  The schools are using a combination of GoogeDrive documents and Padlet to share their work and have begun to look at what happens to things we throw away and the impact of waste on a global scale. Due to the current pandemic, most schools are faced with their own challenges, so the cluster are finding new ways to communicate. Email communication and Teams meetings have enabled schools to share problems and adapt the activities.  All are looking forward to taking action against waste, such as creating eco-bricks and making more sustainable choices. The have created a project Twitter account share our suggestions for combatting waste.

Etwinning National Award: Mind full or Mindfulness

This award winning on-line collaborative project with Spain included activities such as mindful breathing, mantras, colouring, collaborative drawings and making mindfulness jars. Pupils completed an evaluation before and after the project, which demonstrated a successful impact, as they felt more capable of choosing a suitable activity to help them unwind, concentrate or calm down.

Pupils created a combined product: the mindful video, (which was jointly edited), story writing and also mandala art using which enabled children to draw a picture together and work on it over time.


Global scholars: Resourceful Cities

‘Using on-line global collaboration motivates pupils to learn’ - new research recently released, shows that students can build critical global engagement and competency skills and increase their self-confidence through participating in well-conceived digital classrooms—of particular relevance as the COVID-19 pandemic leads to more learning online.  In 2020-21, Global Scholars students are investigating the local and global impacts of consumption culminating in a Community Action Project. With more people living in cities each year, urban populations consume an increasing amount of food, water, energy, and other resources. Many products are designed for a single use, adding to waste disposal challenges.  Pupils at Chipstead Valley have been examining paper waste and working across the school and with the wider community to find recycling solutions. 

Congratulations to your students in Class 1 in the Oasis collaboration on their exemplary presentation for the Unit 1 digital project, “Meet the Global Scholars.” Their video was genuinely heart warming and educational. It was exciting seeing what the “Digiverse” was after reading about it in the e-classroom!

Both these full International School Award recipients have been recognised for the exemplary work they have been doing to develop and embed internationalism throughout the curriculum and for the experience of both staff, pupils and the wider school community.

Erasmus+ KA2 Project: The impact of music, drama and movement in SEN and mainstream schools as pedagogical tools to teach the curriculum, implement inclusion and to support communication, social skills and behaviour

Funding:  For staff visits, project management and activities.

This pan-European project involved partners in the U.K., France, Spain and Sweden and focused on Music, Drama and Movement and using these in an innovative way to enable cross curricular approaches


Erasmus+ KA2 Project: BIS (Building the Inclusive and Creative School for the future)

Funding:  For staff and pupil visits, project management and activities.

This 2-year project is involving all teachers and students at both schools and 3 mainstream schools from Greece, Romania, Spain and Portugal. The project looks at how mainstream education can benefit from the advances made in special needs non-formal education – and how these techniques can be integrated into everyday classes to make them more accessible and attractive to all students.


Etwinning Quality Label:  Oceans S.O.S

This on-line project has been awarded the European Quality Label and it is shortlisted as one of the best UK eTwinning projects in 2019-2020. This project brings together four special needs schools to raise awareness about the plastic waste and pollution in oceans through role-play and creativity Pupils work together to create a movie, an animation, a website, jigsaws and word search puzzles related to the Sustainable Development Goals. They raised awareness of 3 R’s and created art and crafts out of recycled materials. They assessed their work and they were looking forward to seeing their friends again via Zoom and skype sessions.

As well as creating their own costumes and props from recycled plastic, they made a huge variety of displays, musical instruments, Christmas cards and decorations to sell for charity. By inviting other schools to view their film and read their blog posts, pupils were also able to raise awareness and inspire other young people and teachers to give up single-use plastics.

Inspired by their mission, The Brook pupils have insisted on having reusable bottles in school, using containers instead of plastic wrapping, drinking from paper straws and replacing plastic bags with fabric bags. In Cyprus, students visited their town hall and informed the mayor about their project.’

Connecting Classrooms Through Global Learning Project with Nepal:

Three schools from London and three schools from Nepal are working together on the Sustainable Development Goal ‘Life Below Water’.  The aim is to raise awareness about pollution and specifically the plastic waste in oceans, rivers and lakes. A range  of activities are taking place with pupils creating and sending videos, presentations and photos of their school and the local community to each other and exploring the impact of plastic use.

School Exchange Programme: Visit to Chinse partner school Number One Experimental Middle School in Shunde

Funding: Staff and pupil visit to Shunde, China

Winchmore has been involved in this hugely successful partnership with China for many years.  Staff and pupils from both schools have visited each other several times and taken part in a range of activities with each other – forging both educational and personal links. 

In 2019 The School Exchange Visit programme provided £15,000 to help finance the school’s student exchange trip to China.  This ‘once in a lifetime’ experience enabled a group of Winchmore students to travel to their partner school near Hong Kong to take part in joint curriculum based and cultural activities.  This is part of a well-established and successful partnership between the two schools. 

We were utterly delighted to hear the news that our grant application had been successful. We have said many times, a global perspective is incredibly important in promoting social mobility, particularly for students who cannot afford to travel abroad. This is a wonderful opportunity for a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience, that some of our students could only have dreamt of'.

Virtual Partnership with Russia:

Winchmore is using its new international partnership suite which has been designed to provide the best on-line facility for communicating with friends across the world.

Staff and pupils are involved in on-line collaborative activities with the Gymnasium School in Smolensk, Western Russia to share and explore ways of life / culture and language across the two countries.
